Text4Baby
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services has partnered with Text4Baby – the first free national texting service to provide health information to pregnant women and new moms. Text4Baby sends subscribers approximately three text messages each week that are customized based on the mother’s due date or her baby’s date of birth. These texts focus on a variety of topics important to the health of mom and baby and include information on immunizations, nutrition, seasonal flu, mental health birth defect prevention, oral health and more. Text4Baby also connects women to health services by including national hotline phone numbers within the messages. Through the support of CTIA-The Wireless Foundation and participating mobile operators, ALL Text4Baby messages are free – meaning that if you don’t currently have a texting plan you can still receive them, and they also won’t take any texts away from a plan that you may have. The following cell carriers in our area are providing this service: Assurance, AT&T, Boost Mobile, Cricket, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Verizon and Virgin Mobile. Registration for Text4Baby can be done on your cell phone by texting the word “BABY” to 511411. To update your baby’s due date simply text “UPDATE” to the same number, and to stop the messages at any time you can text the word “STOP”. Additional information can also be found at www.text4baby.org
